We opened our doors to the Pocono Community in May 1991.
May 1991
The Pocono
MRI Imaging and Diagnostic Center was the first
MRI Facility in the entire Pocono area.
We started with a 1 Tesla MRI from Picker.
This was a huge machine with a long “tube”.
Each scan took 45- 75 minutes.
We routinely scaned from early morning to late
evening five days a week and on Saturdays. Throughout
the 1990's, our equipment became more advanced
in the form of upgrades.
July 2002
In July 2002 while
upgrading the MRI we used a mobile GE unit placed
behind our building.
December 2002
In our attempt
to continue upholding the highest standard of
technology, we replaced the Picker with a state
of the art GE 1.5 Tesla MRI in December of 2002
This increased both the speed and the resolution
of the pictures.
By increasing the resolution of the images smaller
lesions can be identified.
Rapid Imaging now allows most scans to be completed
within 20 to 30 minutes.
May 2003
Space constraints
in the existing building prompted the need for
a new facility. After extensive planning we were
finally able to relocate and reopen on June 1
2003
July
2003
Realizing
the need of our claustrophobic, overweight and
pediatric patients we added the Open MRI .
This
is also a GE .7 Tesla unit. The installation
of Radworks to our MRI’s enabled our radiologists
to view and have results within minutes of completion
of the scan both on and offsite.
This is very crucial/ beneficial in emergent
situations.
Construction
of our outpatient facility with the installation
of an "open" MRI scanner.
If contrast
is indicated we have a trained certified phlebotomist
on site who skillfully administers the contrast.
2004
The addition of diffusion scanning allows for
almost immediate detection of strokes. We now
know that “Time is Brain” which makes
this a very useful enhancement.
The Neurovascular
array coil became available and was added. This
now helps us more efficiently image the intra
and extracranial circulation It obviates the need
to change coils during the test thus minimizing
patient discomfort and total testing time, while
increasing the resolution of the images obtained.

Pioneering
Cardiac CT in the Poconos
The
PMRID is once again the first radiological Facility
in the entire Pocono area to have a 64 slice
CT Scanner with Cardiac CT and CTA capabilities.
September
2006
We digitalized
X-Rays by adding the Konica Minolta's CR. This
digitalization enables us to send digital images
within a few minutes to our radiologists either
on site or in reading room in Bethlehem.
October
2006
We added the Philips
HD11 Ultrasound to our list of equipment. We have the capability to perform General and Vascular Ultrasound.
We continue to serve
our community with state of the art equipment, and will
strive to provide the excellence of care our patients
have grown to know since Pocono MRI Imaging and Diagnostic
center first opened its doors more than a decade ago.
